I am interested in trying to grow large pumpkins with my kids on my property in Central Ohio next season. I'm just starting to learn about it. Could anyone off advice as to what variety of seeds would be best for my location, where to get them, and some basic beginners information about the planting prep process. Thanks

Ohio valley has a spring seminar for newbies.Look through this site for growing advice. Ask lots of questions on here.And watch the seed exchange over the next month they'll be plenty of great seeds offered up for free.

Read, Read, Read right here and study this site! Know that huge ones only come from great preparation, and hard work. If possible, as suggested, find some other growers near you for tips. Atlantic Giant seeds from any grower are only as good as the preparation the grower has done. You can spend much or you can spend little, it's up to you, but I warn you once you start you'll be addicted!

Going Green

All of the people are giving you excellent advice. This is an excellent site but remember you have two ears and only one mouth. Listen a lot and speak very little until you have been growing a year or two. Join either of the Ohio groups. Seeds grown successfully in your area will grow better for you! In the mean time improve your soil by adding organic matter and getting a soil test done! I wish you great success!

Definitely join a club. Read everything you can on this site. Get Don Langevin's books. Look for spring seminars and introduce yourself to other growers. I haven't Met a grower yet that wouldn't try to help. At the weigh offs get involved. That's how I almost doubled my first weighed pumpkin to my personal best this year. I don't know your location but OVPG is a good place to start. Join the SNGPG out of RI and get there news letter. It's like a magazine. check out their site. Good luck and Grow a big one.
