I know many expert growers will not grow a seed from a split pumpkin or even save the seeds from one. I suppose it is considered more likely that seed from a damaged pumpkin will result in another damaged pumpkin. But splits can result from just about any seeds I think and I also believe that growing a seeds from a damaged pumpkin will only somewhat increase the chances of growing another damaged fruit. So if I am able to get some seeds from a damaged pumpkin that was otherwise doing great, might it be worth taking a chance on ? I mean some of us don't have the connections or the money to afford the best seeds available. Several of you growers are helping me out with some excellent seeds from solid pumpkins and I may also get a few from some pumpkins that ended up splitting. So I am just wondering about how some of you guys and gals feel about this matter. Is there a strong consensus on this matter ?

I think dill ring splits and stem splits are genetic. Most strains will blossum end split-theres more of a luck factor there.Anything can split when temps or rain come at the wrong time

can i remind everyone that the 1789 wallace from last year was a DMG/EST? just saying. i see a lot of dirt from that seed in the results and im sure there are plenty of others not recorded. i dont think that split or DMG seeds are a wash, but it is also important to know where the problem was at for the particular fruit.
