I think the long runner beans he is referring to are wide flat beans that look like a huge ribbon.

Yard Long Beans are not beans at all. They are members of the pea family. Spaghetti and asparagus beans, same story. Not beans.

Brad, if taken to a State, or County Fair & entered in the long bean contest...would they win? Just curious? I am sure you have heard the story...if it looks like a bean, and quacks like a bean??? Know what I mean? LOL Peace, Wayne Brad, is there a true long bean?

Oh ya, I am sure many a county fair will take it and win. Don't try it at the Alaska State Fair though. The only acceptable long bean is a runner bean. It is thick/flat and generally grows twisted (there are tricks to flatten them out) and has about 6 beans (seeds) inside.
Too many common names fool people though. Just like a geranium is not a geranium at all but a pergoleum. Yard long cucumbers are melons and yard long beans are peas while Atlantic giant pumpkins are squash.
