Amelio, the 1161 is the #1 ranked seed in the world, most growers in this hobby grow only for the biggest, and the 1161 gives them a great chance for that. as for the 1066 Hester, it has a long way to go to catch the 1161. I hope something does the 1161's are getting rare.

Amelio, 3 of the 5 biggest pumpkins ever grown were from the 1161 Rodonis seed. The site below is a good reference.

Paul, the 1231 is a fine seed, but only half of the equation. 50% of the 1161 came from the 1450 Pollinator.

Even though I haven't done it yet, I still believe you get a good seed (almost any decent cross) in the hands of a good grower, get the right conditions and you are off to the races. Some might be more potential, but look at all the large fruit from all the different parents.

Agreed Dave! There is most likely lots of crosses better than 1161,but by the time you figure out which one is better you may loose several seasons. The 1566 Rodonis has been said by some to be a better than the 1161, time will tell.I think the 1592 Platte is a great seed. It grew my first 1000 lber with the least amount of care I have ever given any plant. If you cant get a hot seed due to money try some great crosses for free heres one I have if you want to try these. The 319 Mohr=1288 Wallace X 1421stelts or the 1306 Mohr 1161 Rodonis X 1288 Wallace.Theres tons of great seeds, but its riskier then proven.

Amelio, double the square footage doesn't necessarily mean double the weight although it is a huge factor.
If so, you need a seed from this pumpkin at 700 pounds\100 square feet = 4900 lbs in 700sq feet.

I grew my 441 on 150 SF. If only I would have known this Amelio fellow I would have grown it on 700 SF and had a 2058 pound pumpkin!
