What is the deal with this seed?

There must have been 2000+ in this pumpkin to support the number of growers and crosses. Do you think all the claims of growing this seed are legit?

A 1385 was cloned by Matt debacco. I grew one if the clones. But still same genetics

The AGGC shows 115 progeny for the 1385, thats not out of line for a top seed.

some of the newer growers mistakenly call there seed a 1385 when in fact its from a pumpkin grown from the 1385.it can be confusing for newer growers.
i can remenber many new growers saying they had grown the 1068 wallace when in fact they were growing a seed from a pumpkin that was grown from the 1068.big difference

There was bucket of 567 Momberts grown, seemingly too many.

Troy,

Yes great seed, Paps and Quinn and Bry...dead on as well...
The 1385 was a great seed, INDEED.That seed has helped Colorado alone grow two state records from it, and one NM SR as well.. And Joe Jutras put them out there for everyone to grow BIG with.....!! I bet there are a few more left out there to grow as well......

be careful also, they are getting scarce, i won a 1385 last year at an auction, had joe look at it himself, not the real deal! so make sure it is coming from a reliable source, scott....

That's a little disturbing Scott.

i know, joe offered me a real one but tuned it down, not a good enough grower to ruin the tract record the `1385 has !!!

thats an issue that i have squinted at for years. unless you are getting the seeds from the grower, or from a verified seed at auction, ya just dont know.

i believe most of the clubs the auction seeds are legit for sure.clubs get them from the growers for the express purpose of raising funds for their clubs at auctions.

unless you can verify the seed? just a trade with joe blow can be questionable.

its unfortunate but a few rotten apples can make it difficult for everyone.

Marley, what auction was that? And...did you get your money back after it determined not to be the real deal??

not going to raise any feathers, in the few years that i have bid on seeds in auctions, raffles, ect.. i have had only 2 problems, one seed never arrived, and the 1385 problem, other than that, all of the auctions have been great! its tuff to call someone out on a seed, anything could happen, whose to say what happened to the seed? its best left under the bridge, and learn from it.but do not be afraid to bid and buy, like i said 99% of the time you are getting the real deal!!! now only if pap would let me look in that closet of his!lol scott..

I got same probelm a copy of years ago, and me too with the 1385, I won in a silence auction, and only thanks to Jos I found the seed was a fake one, Joe was so kind and gave me one of his original, but this one is the only problem I got during a lot of year bidding in auctions.
Like Pap say: few rotten apples can make it difficult for everyone

Sergio, your English is no worse than a lot of posts on the message boards.

Thanks for contributing to the thread.

Makes us all wonder about older seeds. How about the 991 Urena? That is a seed from 2005 and you never hear from Leonardo himself. How do we know its real?
