Hello everyone, I just found this web site and my son and I would like to grow some big pumpkins next year. I just retired from the Air Force and got a small 3 acre farm. We are working on soil preperation for next year now since we didn't get an early start this year. My problem is I don't know where to get good seeds. I'd be more then able to send self addressed stamped envelope. email me laginess1968@yahoo.com Thanks

MR. Veteran...stick around this site, and once AG's are harvested, weighed, and seeds are harvested...lot's of offers of free (price of SASBE) seeds will show up!!! Lot's of these free offers are from Huge Pkns w/ incredible genetic crosses! You are on the right track...just a little early in the season!!! Another option, is wait just a lil longer and show up at seed auctions, held during the winter on this site...and pay $'s for Way Top Notch Seeds!!! some go fairly cheep, but not so much for the Best of the Best!!! Hope this helps!! Peace, Wayne

Another option is to join a local growers club. For example the GVGO (Ontario) club membership is $25 and you get a yearly seed pack with 30 to 40 top seeds from club growers as well as other seeds from other giants like corn, sunflower, melons, long gourds. You also get newsletters, patch tours, seminars all to help you grow a bigger pumpkin. www.gvgo.ca Michigan also has a club, maybe someone can post the contact info for it.

Thanks everyone for the great response. I have joined a few of the growers clubs and look forward to seeds and info. I have to admit this web site is great and I have spent countless hours reading all the post. Some of the info is overwelming but I hope to make the best of it. Thanks again.

If the Air Force hasn't already made you a lunatic, then this hobby is sure to get the job done.
I'm an Air Force brat, 53 years old, whose father was a twenty-year man and a Vietnam vet. C-130's was his thing while stationed in Phu Cat during the Tet Offensive. When he got bored, he flew firebase missions along the DMZ.
We were stationed at Lockbourne(now Rickenbacker), Turner, Maxwell, and Minot(why not Minot?). Very interesting life as a kid.
How long were you in?

Well first of all I would like to thank everyone for some great info. I have been spreading llama manure for the past two days trying to bring my soil conditions up. I sent in a soil sample through the local co-op and they say 10 days till I get results. A little background on my AF career. I spent ten years on active duty, Texas for Basic Training and Security Forces School. Then to Bitburg Germany for two years then to Vandenberg AFB Ca. for the last seven. During that ten years I was deployed for about three years total. Spent time in Berlin when the cold war ended, Gulf War in Saudi Arabia, Panama "Just Cause" then several stints in Afghanistan, Uzbeckistan. I stayed in the AF Reserves for another 10 years and just retires recently as an Master Sergeant (E-7). I work for the Dept. Of Justice now and love it. I'm glad I have more free time and children who have taken an interest with me in gardening. I will definetly be at Harnica's on October 1. I have driven by his place and looked from the road at a few of his Long Gourds growing. Looks like he keeps his pumpkins out of the public eye. lol Thanks again for all the great info. Hope to see you soon. BTW I'm a 42 year old Male

Thanks to those who e-mailed me with seed information. I can see that I have my work cut out for me. I look forward to the next growing season and even have space to try long gourds and the wife really wants some giant sunflowers. Thanks again and hope everyone has a great weigh-off.
