Last Wednesday we weighed the 2144 Barron pumpkin. It had what started out as a small rot spot about 5 inches away from the blossom nub. Knowing how thin the blossom area can be, I was a little hesitant to scrape too deep, fearing I would break through. I thought I had it under control several times, and even got it dried up, but then I would find rot behind the dried up flesh. I just could not win the battle. After a few weeks it finally got bigger than the 3 inch maximum, per GPC rules. I decided to let it grow as long as I could, until the rot made it into the cavity. On Sunday the 16th of September, it rotted through finally. She was still growing. I could see fresh splits on the stem side. I picked it up on Tuesday, the 19th and weighed it at the Barnesville weigh off. I taped it out to 2075 #. It weighed 2315# , which is about 11 % heavy. A big thank you to my Son Derrik for his good eyes and all his help. Also, thanks goes to the rest of my family. Everyone helps me on some way. I can't grow these with out their help. Thank you to Erik Gunstrom and Quinn Werner also. It was a great season and I learned a lot !! 2315 Zappa dmg 2023 F- 2144 Barron x m- 2405 Gunstrom
