Painfully academic, but the point is, magnesium is closely associated with plant energy and it could end up traveling out of the leaves & into the roots... in fact, it probably does so all the time, a big circular transport we never notice, until the roots decide not to release it back into the xylem, where it could return to the leaves... at that point the cycle is wholly or partly broken, and the interveinal chlorosis sets in,
