These are the sepals. There can often be a missing sepal (where one should have been but it didnt form) or an extra sepal that doesn't really belong, so they arent totally reliable, but other than that, they do correspond better with the # of RIBS of the pumpkin than either the petals or the stigma lobes. I know that info is as mushy as oatmeal but consider yourself as edumacated as myself, lol.
The good news is there will be no test, so relax.
