I found this "peat moss" stuff under a large fir. Its a large Noble or Silver Fir, sixty plus years old and the layer of needles under it is literally a foot thick, and towards the middle of this layer the needles are easily broken up by the lawnmower into this humus. I will attempt to use this as an environmentally friendly substitute for peat moss.
