One of my favorite things about this website is the ability to post photos of holes in the ground, and to have it be a relevant topic of discussion! Thank you, Friends!
I'm a bit skeptical that a two-foot deep hole will be adequate for my heavy cucumber, but my arm is letting me know that this hole is plenty deep already, so I'll make due with what I have here for this season. I plan to dig up the roots this autumn and see how they did, and if I need to dig through more glacial till for next season.
I found it interesting that there is a band of black soil close to the glacial till on this property, I wonder if there was a massive fire here right before the Ice Age hit. This place went through a lot, it seems.
