Starting plants early debate? The young seedling placed in the soil will grow 50% of its RUUTTTs across the surface of the soil aprox 2-3 inches below the surface.Thats ok till summer comes & its 90 degrees out. Then you will get scorched leafs due to shallow root system getting hot.So starting the plant early will give you a deeper root system when placing plant in ground.Northern growers may not be concerned with this but I get pretty hot days here in Muddy waters.Im no soil scientist butt I did start the elevated walk plank in 2011 when I grew my 260 Giant watermelon.I think common sense ideas will grow Big Fruits combined with basic science knowledge. No need to split the Pumpkin atom folks.KISS
