Started these Yohe tomatoes on 1/7. Probably a little late to get in on the winter contest, but I'm going to try. This is my first attempt at germinating a tomato, and Jay's seeds were 5/5. I did not compact the soil enough, and all but 1 had "helmet head" as Dan puts it. Needless to say, I killed a couple trying to fix them. I'm already learning, which was the goal anyway.

Been out of the ground for 9 days now. I think she looks pretty strong. Plan is to get her in a grow bag tomorrow or the next day. Tap root is almost to the bottom of the cup.

I believe we will have the first official pumpkin bloom of 2026 by morning. This plant has been in a McDonald's cup since Thanksgiving.

I was right. Male flower opened and we officially have a bloom in 2026. I forgot how good the blooms smell...

Significant size difference in the 4 tomato plants in this picture. As part of an experiment, these are all the same seed and planted at the same time. The difference is the cups in which they were started. There is 100% no denying that size matters; container size that is. I already knew what the outcome of the experiment would be, but I wanted to prove it to myself.

Transplanted into a bucket yesterday. She looks happy to be 3 weeks old.
